Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830159490

I should like to cite some of the things which would happen to a person who loses his citizenship. A person who loses his citizenship would not be entitled to call himself an American. I believe that a person who is a Communist in America should not be able to call himself an American. because he certainly does not owe nor claim. as a matter of fact. allegiance to the principles of America. He would not be able to obtain American visas and passports. and if he did leave the country. he would not be entitled to reenter. Mr. President. that is one of the real values of the bill.
