Mr. President. under the provisions of the Displaced Persons Act of 1948. certain aliens in the United States who are. in fact. displaced persons may apply for adjustment of their immigration status to that of permanent residents. If the Attorney General approves the application. the case is then submitted to the Congress for affirmative .congressional approval. House Joint Resolution 238 as it passed the House of Representatives recorded congressional approval of a number of these cases. Thereafter. the Senate committee added the names of eight aliens whose cases had been recommended by the Attorney General. Thereafter. the House approved the inclusion of 6 of the 8 cases which were added by the Senate.
