Spyros Skouras. and many Americans who gave their lives in the struggle to preserve our democratic way of life are inferior and undesirable by discriminating against southern Europeans and Asiatics through a racist national origins quota system. How can we hope to counteract Communist influence and propoganda in Italy and Greece by such actions? What can the people of Japan and the Philippines believewhat we say about out friendship for them or our discriminatory actions in our immigration laws. What can the people of Germany think of our actions in attacking their racist doctrine while adopting one of our own? We boast of our democracythat all men are created equalthat they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rightsthat among these are life. liberty. and the pursuit of happiness. Yet. in the McCarranWalters immigration bill we set up a group of inferior secondclass citizensour naturalized citizens. These Americans who came to our country when we needed them to man our machines and build our factories and railroads and honored us by their acceptance of the American way of life to themselves and their posterity by accepting American citizenship are being treated as inferior people with retarded rights and privileges. Where is the traditional policy of the haven of the oppressed and the poor which helped to make our country great?
