President Eisenhower asked me to visit four countries which have a physical stake in the Jordan watershed. He asked me to lay before their governments an idea through which the wasted waters of the river can be harnessed. The idea was embodied in a report called "Unified Development of the Water Resources of the Jordan Valley Region." prepared by the Boston engineering firm of Charles T. Main. Inc.. under the supervision of the Tennessee Valley Authority. It was compiled at the request of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. which for the past 5 years has been supporting 800.000 Arab refugees from Palestine.
