Mr. President. since this bill grants permanent residence to a person who has been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude. it should be amended to protect that individual from future deportation based upon such conviction. The Immigration and Naturalization Service has recommended the following language. which was used to amend S. 1062. Calendar No. 953. an earlier bill on the calendar: The Attorney General is hereby directed to cancel forthwith any outstanding warrant of arrest. order of deportation. and warrant of deportation In the case of said Francoise Bresnahan. and Is further directed hereafter not to exclude or deport her from the United States by reason of any of the facts constituting ground for deportation as set forth in such outstanding order or warrant of deportation. I should like to ask the distinguished chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary whether he intended to offer such an amendment. or. if he did not intend to do so. whether he had any objection to such an amendment.
