I am sure my colleagues In the House know from recent press reports what has been happening down on the Mexican border. particularly that part of the border which separates my own State of California from Mexico. We have been treated to the spectacle of agents of the United States Government standing on one side of the border encouraging citizens of Mexico to cross despite the attempts of Mexicos armed forces to block the border and keep their people home where they belong. On January 25 the authorized representatives of agricultural labor organizations tn the territory directly affected protested vigorously to President Eisenhower against this body blow at our friendship with Mexico and against violations of immigration law by our Government officials. Thus far the protest has been blandly ignored. Indeed. the administration has had the audacity to ask the Comptroller General of the United States for an opinion upholding the legality of their illegal actions and to ask Congress for additional funds to finance their depredations.
