All I am talking about is what we actually put into the Senate bill. I am giving these figures so that the Senate will have a comparison with what the conferees finally recommended. Under the provisions of the House bill. the classes and numbers were as follows: House bill 6481 German expellees ------------------ 60. 000 Nationals of Italy ------------------ 60. 000 Nationals of Greece ----------------20. 000 Nationals of the Netherlands ------- 20. 000 Nationals of Japan ---------------- 2.000 Arab refugees ----------------------2.000 Chinese refugees ------------------ 2.000 Refugees in Germany and Austria-. 25. 000 NATO refugees -------------------- 15. 000 Anders Poles in British Isles -------- 3.000 European aliens in Hong Kong ------ 2. 000 Nationals of Portugal -------------- 2. 000 Orphans -------------------------- 4. 000 Total -----------------------217. 000 In addition. the House bill provided for the adjustment of status of certain cases in the United States. but with no numerical limitation. The adjustment cases were to be deducted from the overall total embraced in the House bill. The numbers and classes prescribed in the conference bill are as follows: Conference bill German expellees ------------------ 55. 000 Escapees in GermanyBerlin and Austria ------------------------- 35. 000 NATO escapees -------------------- 10.000 Anders Poles ---------------------- 2. 000 Italian refugees ------------------- 45.000 Italian relatives ------------------- 15.000 Greek refugees ---------------------15.000 Greek relatives -------------------- 2. 000 Netherlands refugees -------------- 15.000 Netherlands relatives -------------- 2. 000 Far East refugees (nonAsiatic) ---- 2. 000 Far East refugees (Asiatics) -------- 3.000 Chinese refugees (who have passports endorsed by the National Government) ------------------- 2. 000 Arab refugees --------------------- 2. 000 Orphans -------------------------- 4.000 Adjustment cases ------------------ 5. 000 Total ------------------------ 214.000 It will thus be seen. Mr. President. that the principal differences in numbers and classes embraced in the bill as it passed the Senate and in the conference bill are as follows: First.
