Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830103427

It seems to me that we take up more time legislating for countries across the sea than we do for our own people. We do not have to worry about surpluses. If we keep letting the immigration bars down as we did a day or two ago. when Congress approved the admittance of over 200.000 immigrants to the United States. they will eat up all of our surpluses. we will not have any surpluses. I have heard several of my colleagues talk about the Christian spirit and brotherly love. as though it was up to us to feed everybody in the entire world. The Good Book does not even teach that at all.
