Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830100607

Chairman. H. R. 6481. the socalled emergency immigration bill or the socalled displacedpersons bill. has as its purpose the admission of 240.000 aclditional persons into the United States under special quota immigrant visas. Again we are being asked to disregard our established immigration quotas and open our doors to a large number of people from many parts of the world. We are told that this is an emergency matter and that action must be taken without delay. We have heard this argument many times before and it now appears that we shall continue to hear it many times in the future.
