He cannot argue that the displaced persons program was good but different from this program and is therefore not a precedent and at the same time argue that it is the same as this program and that therefore this program is bad. unfortunately history is against this latter argument. The displaced persons program was good. The record is excellent. There were very few. amazingly few bad apples in the whole barrelout of over 390.000 admitted to the United States as DPs only a few charged with subversive activities and only about 30 under deportation charges for any reason. The DPs were absorbed into the country satisfactorily in terms of housing and employment. The history of the DPs is against the argument that they did not settle well and effectively into the United States.
