Of course I am concerned with the situation in New York. and I am also concerned with the situation throughout the country. in the case of the Bureau of Customs. I understand that approximately 330 or 340 jobs are involved in the cut. Let me say we have done a great deal of talking. and I have shown great concern. about questions of fraud. collusion. smuggling. narcotics traffic. illegal immigration. and incometax evasion. We protest against the existence of these evils. and there is no doubt that unfortunately they do exist. It seems to me it is poor economy for us to reduce the appropriations recommended for the detection or prevention of these crimes.
