Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830021057

Wyoming. and Utah should unite in sponsoring this legislation so vital to the future welfare of all of them. Even though this country is now engaged in a contest of uncertain duration with communism. it is still necessary to carry on a program of development of our natural resources. With an annual increase in population of approximately 21/2 million people as a result of births within the United States and an annual immigration of over 500.000 people from other countries. the United States faces the absolute need for additional opportunities for farms. homes. and jobs to take care of this great increase. We cannot rest on our oars with a prospective increase of 30 million people in the next 10 years. The last remaining frontiers where great developments can take place are in the far West.
