But that is not true. He is an American citizen of Chinese birth. and those in Hawaii have acted as real Americans. Do you not realize that right here in the Congress of the United States there are 17 percent of us. and I am one of them. who are the sons -of immigrants? I do not want to be called a ScandinavianAmerican. because I am an American. even though my parents emigrated from across the ocean. Those people over in Hawaii have become thorough Americans. just like you and I. even though they may be of different color. It seems to me the latter record alone would entitle them to statehood.
