President. under date of February 11. 1953. Mr. Eric Sevareid in a radio newscast issued a series of highly inflammatory. misleading statements with reference to the Immigration and Nationality Act. the McCarranWalter Act. Unfortunately. the junior Senator from New York promptly thereafter caused an excerpt from the newscast to be inserted in how misleading were the expressions of Mr. Sevareid. I requested the staff of the Immigration and Naturalization Subcommittee of the Senate to check on the allegations of Mr. Sevareids misleading broadcast. I now ask unanimous consent to have printed in the RECORD as a part of my remarks a letter dated February 19. 1953. from the Commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service in which he points out the misstatements in the Sevareid broadcast.
