The adoption of this amendment will permit the provisions of this bill to become effective at once. But this amendment does not make any change of substance in the provisions of the bill as reported from the Senate committee. Under this amendment. this new law will not become a part of the codified Immigration and Nationality Act. It should not do so. for this Is temporary legislation. expiring at the end of 1955. But adoption of this amendment. and enactment of the bill in that amended. form. will permit the benefits of the bill to take effect at once. and to keep it in effect for the entire time for which it is intended to expedite naturalization of aliens now serving in our Armed Forces. I ask that my amendment be adopted and that the bill be passed.
