Session #82 · 1951–53

Speech #820245087

Are we going to listen to their voices of protest and predictions when we know that the bill. if enacted into law over the Presidents veto. will take care of some of the imperfections of the present situation? So far as I am concernedand I hope that is the way most other Senators feelwhen I go back to my constituents I want to be able to defend my position when I read to them the provisions of the bill and explain it to them as they ought to have it explained. I think we should study most carefully every proposal to let down the bars of immigration. I have conducted hearings involving some of the people from Central Europe. I have noticed the intense hatred which exists among them.
