Session #82 · 1951–53

Speech #820243769

It is my hope that we will make a proper settlement of the problem. I wish the Senator from Nevada were on the floor. I feel an obligation to the Senator from Washington to permit him to again offer his amendment. I wanted time to discuss the proposal. because I believe that the RECORD should be perfectly clear. It is my understanding that the Immigration Service feels that under no circumstances could they operate for even a short period of time for less than $2.500.000. and that $4.000.000 is a basic minimum for the program for a full years operation. Mr. President.
