I feel that we have been very good to the people of Puerto Rico. I was impressed a few moments ago by the remarks of the junior Senator from Texas regarding the population of the United States having increased at a rapid rate. It is nothing compared to the increase i population in Puerto Rico. In about 1910 Puerto Rico had only about 600.000 people. Today it has a population of almost 2.500.000. despite the fact that 600.000 Puerto Ricans have emigrated to New York. I believe the Senator from Florida will confirm the statement there are about 75.000 Puerto Ricans in the State of Florida.
