Session #82 · 1951–53

Speech #820215221

President. there are a number of amendments on the desk. but it is not my intention to call up any further amendments. I think it is perfectly obvious that they will not be agreed to unless we have the concurrence of the Judiciary Committee. and there seems to be a difference of opinion. We have tried to argue the question of immigration legislation with vigor. with knowledge of the facts. and with intelligence. The Senator from Rhode Island . who is at present presiding. knows that it is our hope that the bill will be given the most careful scrutiny after the debate to see what has been done. It is our further hope that the bill will not become law.
