Session #82 · 1951–53

Speech #820215052

If I may complete my thought. I shall be glad indeed to yield. They are quite as American. they love their country as much. they have sacrificed for their country as much as those whom the senior Senator from Georgia would place above the rest. Mr. President. I am the son of an immigrant. I am proud of it. My father came -to this country and settled in Alabama. in the great Southland. He was a peddler. he operated a general store. and served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. After that war he went to New York. where he became one of the leaders of the life of that city.
