Year after year the opposition reasserted itself. but we beat down every effort that was made to destroy the national origins basis on which the law was founded. I thought the opponents had been somewhat discouraged. but a new crop of patriots has arisen in this great land. They now lay down the doctrine which. carried to its logical conclusionand that is where they want to carry itwould mean the abolition of restrictions on immigration. It would mean letting down the bars. and letting them all in. There is a strange corollary to that doctrine. and that is that somehow people outside this Nation have the right to say what our immigration laws shall be.
