The truth is that the National Catholic Welfare Conference is supporting the McCarranWalter bill. and I inserted in thd RECORD in my opening remarks a statement from the National Catholic Welfare Conference to that effect. The opponents of the committee bill have apparently gone through the record of the hearings. which they say does not exist. and excerpted suggestions by organizations regarding particular sections of the bill which were made in the formative stages of this bill. and then they conclude that the organization which made the suggestion is opposed to the bill in toto. The truth is. Mr. President. that the overwhelming majority of those nonGovernment organizations interested in the field of immigration and naturalization have expressed themselves as favorable to the socalled McCarranWalter bill.
