Session #82 · 1951–53

Speech #820210111

We have to do it by practical example. We have to do it by showing the way by the light of accomplishment. I am well aware of the fact that the Senate Judiciary Committee has given long and serious study to the immigration policy of our country. In 1947 the Senate adopted a resolution which directed the Senate Committee on the Judiciary to make a full and complete investigation of our entire immigration system. Beginning with July 1948. a special Judiciary Subcommittee began extensive hearings and investigations. As a result of these studies and deliberations made by a staff of experts under the guidance first of the former Senator from West Virginia.
