During the 12year period between 1927 and 1939. according to the Fish and Wildlife Service. the Japanese had an average annual crab pack of 445.102 cases. Of that average annual pack. 55 percent. or about 250.000 cases. was shipped into the United States. This supplied 85 percent of the American market for canned crab. Under postwar agreements entered into by us with Russia. the Russians were given control and jurisdiction over the Asiatic crab fishing waters. formerly fished by the Japanese crab fishing fleets. The Russians can. and no doubt will. henceforth pack half a million cases of canned crab annually. Obviously. it is their intention to dump this Russian canned crab onto the American market.
