They do not need anything except faith in the fact that they are not going to be stooges in the future. That is what concerns most of Asia today. I call upon the State Department to look Into the possibility of having free elections there. Such elections would seem to be a prerequisite to any solution In Formosa. Maybe the United Nations should hold them. Maybe a commission of people from the southern Asiatic countries. such as India and others. should do it. The United States should take initiative if no one else does. That is what is really needed in Formosa.
