Session #81 · 1949–51

Speech #810154577

They told me that many of their friends coming over within the next month also did not expect to live up to their moral obligations. There is also the case of the displaced person who came over on the same boat as they did. who had signed an assurance for farm work in Iowa. but who expected to stay in Brooklyn. He was. however. sent to Iowa. but in a few days time my displaced persons received a letter from him asking if they could locate a job for him here in the East. "It is my opinion. and also my wifes. that people of this nature should be deported as they are certainly not the type that are going to make good citizens of the United States of America. I so informed Church World Service and they say there is nothing legally that can be done about It. I am also going to take the matter up with our Congressman from this district because if these people are left free to do just as they please. our displacedpersons law needs changing very quickly.
