Session #81 · 1949–51

Speech #810120956

We have undertaken to implement that obligation. We have not undertaken to Implement it for any given period of time. but there is a question of good faith involved to show that at this time we are not reneging on the implementation of the pact. which was expected by every nation that joined the pact. The second defect in this bill. as I see it. is that In the statement of policy at the very beginning of the bill it is made clear that the Congress of the United States favors the creation of an Asiatic alliance to preserve the freedom of the peoples of Asia from Communist domination. The wording is not exactly that. but that Is the intent of it. However. further in the bill there is no implementation whatever to make that policy possible.
