On the opposite side is evidence that the form which he signed clearly states on its face that the applicant is relieved from military service. but that he shall thereafter be barred from becoming a citizen of the United States. This bill. however. does not grant this alien citizenship. It merely authorizes his continued residence in the United States. Evidently. if the bill should be enacted. he could become a citizen by following normal naturalization procedure. It is probable this bill would have been turned down by the Committee on the Judiciary except for one fact which the committee was unable to ignore. That fact is that this alien is married to an American girl. a citizen of the United States. and has a child who is a nativeborn citizen.
