Fortynine percent of the present DP population are Catholics. 18 percent are Jewish. and 33 percent are members of Protestant and Orthodox faiths. Thirtysix percent of the DPs who have arrived here have settled in New York State. Slightly more than 7 percent settled In New Jersey. The other 57 percent have spread through the other 46 States. We can easily accommodate in a single year the total number that this bill allows to enter over a 3year period. I urge the passage of this bill. We owe It to the immigrants who first settled this country. We owe it to our ancestors who came here and made it possible for us to be here today.
