Session #81 · 1949–51

Speech #810076269

A Russian - Polish - Yugoslav commission had recently visited the camp for the purpose of urging repatriation upon these people. By entreaty. cajolery. alluring promise. and every enticement they were urged to return to their native land. No impediment in the way of such action was interposed by anyone. Indeed. the International Refugee Organization endeavored in every way. as it has consistently done. to expedite their repatriation. Yet this Communist mission was booed. stoned. and their very lives threatened by the people in these camps. normally peaceful and lawabiding. but driven to extremes by the fury of their anticommunism. Their living conditions in these camps. although they had the bare necessities of life. were by no means pleasant.
