Session #81 · 1949–51

Speech #810013066

R. 199. I believe that this bill is a worthy one. and that its passage is long overdue. It seems to me that It is a matter of basic justice that we give to the permanent alien residents of the United States the right to become naturalized citizens. I am also in agreement with the principle that immigration quotas should be established for the people now excluded in the Asian and Pacific areas. This bill will make it possible for the fathers. mothers. and other relatives of boys who served in the American armed forces in the recent World War II. to become American citizens. In my particular district. the largest racial group which will be affected will be those of Japanese ancestry.
