Session #81 · 1949–51

Speech #810009089

I am proud of the fact that this nation has refused to recognize Russias annexation of Lithuania and her two Baltic neighbors. Latvia and Estonia. I sincerely pray that we may continue our stand in this regard until the day when Lithuania and the Baltic states become free and independent governments once again. No finer citizens ever emigrated to these shores than those who came from Lithuania. Today. when these Americans of Lithuanian birth and descent celebrate throughout this Nation the declaration of independence made at Vilnius. Lithuania. on February 16. 1918. they have in their hearts genuine appreciation of our Governments refusal to recognize the Moscowtrained gangsters and cutthroats who have taken over the land they love.
