Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800199624

It seems every safeguard and precaution necessary was written into the bill. Bear in mind that this bill will not increase our intake of foreign citizens into this country by a single person. yet. at thesame time it will permit us to keep out the undesirable and only take those who can be assimilated and for whom there are living quarters available in this country. . If 100.000 come in this year under this bill. then only 53.000 extra persons can come in under the regular normal immigration quotas. We will still be admitting 153.000 people a year but under the most careful restrictions which are written into the bill. Mr.
