Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800198423

In the course of the last year and a half. I have made numerous public addresses in explanation of the plight of these people. of the proposals providing for their Edmission. and of the great social and humanitarian need for affirmative action by the Eightieth Congress. The Subcommittee on Immigration and Naturalization of the Committee on the Judiciary has held thorough and extensive hearings. The subject has been explored from every conceiable angle. and now this bill comes forth with just about the unanimous recommendation of the 27 members of the House Committee o: the Judiciary. As is true of most legislation. this is a compromise between varying views on the subject.
