In order to take care of those who can properly. be classified as displaced persons who are already in this country. it is provided in section 4 that up to a limit of 15.000 shall be permitted to remain here permanently with the same quota provisions as relate to those overseas. As to the administration of this bill. it provided in section 8 for a Coordinator for the Resettlement of Displaced Persons. His duties are to oversee the administration of the act. including a thorough screening of all applicants. to make semiannually reports to the Congress. to assist in the settlement of the displaced persons in the various states and to hasten the cooperation of other nations through the International Refugee Organization in the solutioh of this distressing problem. so as to expedite the closing of the camps and termination of this emergency situation. Finally. the date mentioned in the bill. April 21. 1947. deserves comment.
