Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800193683

I feel that it would be unwise at this time to attempt to resolve them by attaching this proposal to the selective service bill. On the contrary. It can best be dealt with separately. and I think to some extent it has been dealt with separately in the fact that a few days ago we passed a displacedpersons bill allowing immigration to this country. I think there would be an appropriate time when the issue could be taken up and discussed so that it would not be submerged In the broader issues of selective service. The committee considered the proposal. and I am speaking for the committee. although I realize that some of the members of the committee were not present when the actual vote on the amendment was taken.
