Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800189455

President. I urge the Senate to reject this amendment. because. regardless of the quota numbers. it simply would open up this matter to all the worldto Asia and to every other continent on the globeand would permit the entry of an unlimited number of persons. if they were not older than 14 years of age. Such a provision is a general immigration matter. It has no place in the displacedpersons bill. I say with all respect to my colleague the Senator from New York that I hope the amendment will not be adopted as a part of this bill. but will be taken before the committee dealing with the general subject of immigration and will be given consideration in that connection.
