Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800189441

Let us read the amendment: After June 30. 1948. and prior to July 1. 1950. an immigrant under 14 years of age who is an orphan because of the death. or disappearance indicating the death. of one or both parents as a result of World War I. I am very glad to have the explanation of the Senator. but the way the amendment is written. it would certainly leave the inference that the word "orphan" Is used to define. in certain instances. a child one of whose parents is deceased. Be that as it may. it seems to me that the able Senators amendment is too broad in its scope to be included in the limited bill with which we are dealing. which covers Germany.
