Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800188309

I wish I could have converted a greater number of members of the Committee on the Judiciary. Mr. President. I have received hundreds of letters from my State. I am sure that other of my distinguished colleagues has also received scores of letters. These letters beg us to go to the immigration authorities and get action to the end that their relatives may be brought here. According to some of the letters which I have received. the writers of the letters understand that their relatives are starving. Former President Hoover said in the report that they are getting 1.320 calories. although they should be getting a minimum of 2.200 calories.
