Such a course is wholly undesirable. first. because of the antipathies between the host people and their erstwhile victims. and. secondly. because of the already devastated economies of those countries which make absorption improbable. There is. finally. the possibility of maintaining these people indefinitely in existing camps and assembly centers. But that course. aside from the burden of maintenance which is no small consideration to the governments which sponsor the International Refugee Organization or are otherwise responsible for the care of displaced persons. is to accept as a normal phenomenon that which presently exists to the shame of all humanity. As the senior Senator from Michigan has said. the one answer is resettlement. And resettlement is the collective responsibility of all nations. our own included.
