Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800134643

I do not like to see organized violence or aggression anywhere in the world. History should have taught us that aggression. unless checked immediately. has a habit of spreading. I am further concerned with the particular subject of Palestine because it is a subject on which the Congress of the United States. the two great political parties. and American public opinion are very clearly on record as favoring a Jewish state and largescale Jewish immigration. Finally. I am clearly concerned over the fact that the executive branch of our Government. after having exercised its influence in accordance with the wishes of the American people. and after having contributed to the wise solution of the Palestine question by the United Nations. is now wavering.
