Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800110532

The investigation will go into that phase. I will say to the distinguished Senator from Tennessee that I desire to speak on that subject a little later. I also say that the views of the distinguished Senator from Tennessee on the question of immigration are the same as my own. Mr. President. last year there were admitted into the United States 108.721 immigrants. Of that number there were only 1.136 farmerlaborers. only 2.464 domestics. or other classes of people needed in the United States at this time. if we are to admit any of them. Moreover. every country on the globe except the United States has a system to investigate and weed out trouble makers.
