Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800094073

So I say that in order for Great Britain to clear herself with the thinking peo.ple. those who. love freedom. the world around. she must discard her present -position on the white paper of 1939. In 1776 our forefathers. charged that the King "has dissolved representative houses repeatedly. for opposing with manly firmness his invasions. on the -rights of -the people." - In Palestine. the British have prevented the gathering of representatives of the people. and keep minor municipal councils ina constant state of fear. Our declaration charged the Crown with endeavoring "to prevent the population of these States. for that. purpose obstructing the laws for naturalization of foreigners. refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither. and raising the conditions of new appropriations of lands." In Palestine. British troops not. only obstruct the laws for naturalization. but forcibly deport from the shores of Palestine thousands of men. women. and children who Pave every legal and moral right to dwell there. Furthermore. in Palestine the British administration has prevented the settlement and development of the major portion of the country by unnatural and arbitrary closing of vast territories. The declaration charged that the Crown "obstructed the administration of justice by refusing his assent to laws for establishing judiciary powers." In Palestine. civil courts have been superseded by military tribunals.
