Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800081932

Mr. Chairman. I did not Intend to speak on this bill but- I am going to do my level best to answer the argument of the gentleman who -preceded me. About 20 years ago I became a member of a committee in California known as the joint immigration committee. as a reprepresentative of the American Legion. We had a representative of the American Federation of Labor. the attorney general. a representative of the Native Sons of the Golden West. and others. Our problem was to devise ways and means to keep orientals from coming to California. For 10 years following my entry on this committee. it was my firm conviction from my studies and observations that Hawaii was a Japanese outpost.
