Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800079981

I want it distinctly understood that my vote In favor of the present bill is not to be construed as favoring any subsequent legislation that would open our doors to any displaced persons in Europe. I feel that we must do our uttermost to furnish relief to the victims of war and that we ought to join other nations in this organized way to do it most effectively. It is because I am unwilling to disregard our immigration laws and opposed to throwing our doors open to these displaced persons. that I feel we must pass this bill and give aid most effectively abroad.
