I had hoped we might perhaps slip that in when there was some happy interlude in the debate on the pending bill. Inasmuch as the committee is unanimous in the report. I had hoped that there would be little controversy about it. and that we could proceed with it rather promptly. There still seems to be some argument over the appropriate language in the amendment dealing with immigration. Until that is straightened out. which I hope will be tomorrow. nothing can be done about the matter. but as soon as possible I shall ask the Senate to give attention to the bill. because this is one of the measures upon which prompt action is very acutely necessary.
