Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800017032

During the war these clerical staffs were built up at an unusually heavy rate. The committee feels that with the emergency now over. postal inspectors should be able to utilize clerks at local post offices on a parttime basis. reducing thereby the clerical work at division headquarters and eliminating some of the warservice personnel. Enforcement activities of the Bureau of Narcotics received a good deal of notice in the press recently. when the Bureau forced the expulsion of an American exconvict and deportee. Over a long period of years this Bureau. under Commissioner Harry J. Anslinger. has been doing a quiet but very efficient job.
