Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800004091

The Federal Works Agency is now holding these buildings and trying to sell them to school districts. In many cases these districts have neither the money nor the taxing power to buy these buildings or this equipment. The buildings are rapidly deteriorating. and it seems to me to be common sense and a progressive move to turn them back to the districts where they are located. so they may be used in solving the educational problems facing these various localities where many of the migrants have remained. In the last Congress I introduced such a bill and the FWA objected to it. Within a few days after the bill had been dropped in the hopper one of their men from the San Francisco district office came back here for a conference.
