Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790229876

Mr. President. I introduce at this time. although I realize it is late in the session. a bill pertaining to the naturalization of persons who have served in the armed forces. and I ask that the bill be referred to the appropriate committee. I wish to read only one section of the bill: Persons who have served with the military or naval forces of the United States in overseas theaters and who. having been lawfully admitted to the United States. including its Territories and possessions. shall have been at the time they were accepted for such service residents thereof. may be naturalized under the provisions of this title in the same manner and subject to the same terms and conditions as if such service had been performed in the military or naval forces of the United States. Mr. President. I should like to say that the bill bears upon a matter of great injustice to a considerable number of people who really have performed very valuable services for the United States during the war. while attached to the naval or military forces. and who in the absence of the enactment of this bill will not be eligible for naturalization.
