Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790204970

They proved to be a source of great assistance and protection for displaced or stateless persons who had no government of their own to whom they could apply. While they did not establish ordinary passport fights in the usual.sense of the word. they did provide definite protective identifications which proved to be of great and humane service in the preservation of human rights and fundamental freedoms. Thereis even greater need for Nansen passports. or their equivalent. in the aftermath of World War II. because the problem of refugees. displaced persons. and socalled stateless persons. is of even greater magnitude and greater challenge.
